If you’re an elderly Millennial, you’re likely well-familiar with the Care Bears—lovable, colorful bears, each with a different feeling represented on their belly by a cute lil’ picture. They apparently started out as greeting cards, but then moved on to a cartoon series and 1985’s The Care Bears Movie.

Perhaps what they’re best known for is their Care Bear Stare, where they, often as a group, Stare at their enemies, causing beams of hearts and stars to blast out of their bellies, disgusting their unempathetic foes in the process. No, this is not a horror franchise, unless you fear feelings.

In the ongoing trend of bringing back intellectual property steeped in nostalgia, Warner Bros. is developing a Care Bears movie, and Deadline broke the news today that Josh Greenbaum (Strays, Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) is on board to direct, right after he finishes work on his Spaceballs sequel for Amazon MGM Studios.

This isn’t the only recent effort to bring the Care Bears to a new generation. In addition to the series and films in the 1980s, new versions of the show have been released in the 2000s, the 2010s, and in 2019’s Care Bears: Unlock the Magic.

This feature endeavor is still in its early days—it doesn’t even have a writer attached yet!—so we’ll likely have to blink more than once before we find out when it will make its way to a theater near you. icon-paragraph-end
